The Waiting is the Hardest Part

I’m sorry if I’ve been unresponsive lately.  Life has been very crazy because…drum roll please…we’re moving.  Yup, we'll have new digs. 

I know I haven’t kept my loyal blog readers in the loop, but, you see, we've had the mortgage process from hell and we weren’t sure if it this was going to happen or when.  And actually, I guess you can't be 100% sure it will all work until they hand you the keys.  But at least now I can say that closing is officially on Thursday.

We’ve been so busy packing up our stuff and soon we’ll be surrounded by boxes that need unpacking.  It will be crazy.  I’ll miss living in DC, but am excited all the same.  More news (and pictures!) to come as we settle in.

Museum Recommendations

For anyone who will be in the DC area in March, I highly recommend seeing the temporary exhibit at the National Gallery of Art on the Roman Villa.  The exhibit more or less recreates what a roman villa would be like, using actual frescos and sculptures found at Pompeii and Herculaneum.  It is fascinating and beautiful.  I just couldn’t get over all the original artwork they had from the first century AD.  It will only be there until March 22nd and is well worth the visit.

Also, as long as I’m recommending museums, the recently renovated American History Museum has an exhibit on Lincoln, which is interesting.  Just be sure to go early because the line gets long.  I’m not sure how long that one will be there.

Recovery

Throughout this whole economic crisis thing, I have been convinced that we'll bounce back. Sure, the country is going to fall apart eventually when global warming reduces farmable land and affects coastal cities or when we have too much debt and go bankrupt; whichever comes first.  But that day was not today.  "Pas le Big One."  The collapse, if it's coming, was supposed to happen in a somewhat distant future.  Or at least that's what I thought.  I'm starting to doubt that.  Things might not just go back to normal.

Maybe I'm just saying that because I've heard how dire the situation is over and over in every article and every news show.  I do find it funny how they say how important consumer confidance is, yet seem to do everything they can to repeat recession or depression as many times as possible.  If the media didn't keep saying how unstable the job market is, would you be as worried about your job?  They are just reporting the news, and yet they seem to be a large part of the problem.  Of course, I'm no economist and I'm sure it's more complicated, but it seems that way to me.

Don't mind me, I'm just a little pessimistic this morning.  This too shall pass, I hope.
