This is probably going to be my last post for a while. Work is busy and my plane leaves on Wednesday. Yay, vacation! Today I ventured out to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. This is the 41st annual festival but it's the first year that I've been. If you are in the area between now and July 1st or July 4-8, definitely go. It is fascinating. I spent the day preparing for Thailand by stopping at the Thai cooking class, watching traditional Thai dancing, and talking to a presenter from the Hmong people, who I'm going to be visiting during my trip. I also took part in a reinactment of the New Year's water throwing festival. It's interesting; the festival is shared by all the people along the Mekong river, yet they each celebrate differently. It was well worth the visit and I took lots of pictures, so check out the Folklife album.
