The first weekend of every April is Fool's Fest down in Fredericksburg. It's a tournament with lots of teams, lots of spirit and lots of fun. This year was no exception. It's a low-key weekend where you're abruptly jolted from lazy winter hibernation to 7 frisbee games or more over a 3 day span. Plus, you get to spend all your byes relaxing in the beer tent and your nights hanging out with people you haven't seen in forever at dinner and at tournament sponsored parties.
This weekend is a great time and is by far Chris' favorite weekend of the entire year. He gets to see all his college friends and spend time with them. I do too and it's great to see alumni of Drew Ultimate past getting together. Sometimes I wish that more of the younger alums will show up so I have someone to trade college stories with too, but so far I haven't been successful luring them down. No one I went to school with every comes.
For the last 7 years, Fool's Fest has given out a spirit award and for 6 of those years, Drew has won. This year was our 5th year in a row. It's that spirit and true sense of the game that makes this team one of the best groups of people I've ever played with. This tournament always renews my faith in the game.
We played some good teams this year and achieved all our objectives. It was sad to see everyone go home once more. I'm sunburnt, tired and sore, but that's what shows the weekend has been successful. Then this weekend I have a mini-tournament here in DC.
In other news, I find it funny that throughout these past few days of spring, every time I smell freshly spread mulch or fertilizer, I think of Drew. It was always around this time that the whole campu had the familiar smell and I've come to associate it with Spring at Drew. It's not the most pleasant smell, but seems to have fond memories attached to it.
Still no word from Verizon.
