It looks like I actually will be headed south to DC. Not right away, but in the coming months. In the meantime, I've begun to wrap my head around planning. Moving in, making new friends, getting adjusted, combining 2 apartments worth of stuff, etc. It's the stuff that I've been contemplating specifically today. Here's the dilemma; I have a bright red couch with red chairs and red decorative accessories. Chris has a burgundy wall, rug with a good deal of burgundy, and basically the same range of colors, except they're all dark and muted instead of the bright, rainbow-y colors that I have. What shall we do? I know it's a little detail that doesn't matter much, but still, meshing two styles is not always easy. Do we get a chocolate brown slip cover for my couch? Do we put on pillows that have both red and burgundy, trying to bring the two together? Do we live with mismatching colors now, knowing that when we eventually move to a house there will be room for both color schemes? I'm not entirely sure. I know we've discussed where everything will go, but somehow, I still can't seem to picture it all together. However, I couldn't do that with my current apartment either until I actually saw the furniture all set up. Silly things to consider, yet important, nonetheless. Ideas?

I have to say you'll probably have to live with (and in and amongst) it for a little bit to figure out which of your reds and burgundies can coexist happily, which need to go into hiding under a slipcover/coat of paint, and which need to pack their bags. Also, I think it depends significantly on how long you're going to have to live with the "mismatch". 6 months? not bad. 6 years? might make you want to poke your eyes out with the nearest available pointy object. Good luck!
